IT Knowledge Base : How can I register a new media type with IANA?

To register a new media type with IANA:

  1. Check that the media type has not already been included in the IANA Media Type Registry.
  2. Follow the Media Type Registration Procedures.
    Tip - always use the latest version of the procedures.

To register a new structured syntax suffix with IANA:

  1. Check that the structured syntax suffix has not already been included in the IANA Structured Syntax Suffix Registry.
  2. Follow the Structured Syntax Suffix Registration Procedures.
    Tip - always use the latest version of the procedures.

 

Please note that the WGs are responsible for any registrations with IANA, unless some other specific arrangements are made with OMNA and the OMA staff.
